The Guardian recommends Pozzillo for a late sunshine break

If it’s authenticity you’re after, Pozzillo ticks every box. This tiny fishing port on Sicily’s east coast is close to some of Sicily’s most popular attractions, but also perfect if you want to experience the island minus the tourists. Live simply at Terrazza sul Mare, where the vast terrace looks directly out over the port, and steps lead down to a pebbly beach at the water’s edge. Nip down to the stall on the street corner in the morning for the freshest of fish and in the evening, pop it on the barbecue while you watch the fishing boats out at sea.  The 2-bedroom villa has a living room, kitchen and bathroom.

Situated just under an hour from Catania, Pozzillo is also a great base for exploring the east coast.
