Overview

OverviewDeeply immersed in the landscapes of western Sicily, Ericea is set close to the rural town of Buseto Palizzolo, halfway between Erice and Segesta. With views from its infinity pool and jacuzzi over the surrounding vineyards, almond and olive groves, the villa for 6 (+2 extra sleeps) is perfectly placed for exploring some of north west Sicily’s most fascinating towns and attractions, interspersed with relaxing days on the beach.

The beautifully renovated Baglio is the result of years devoted to restoring the old country home to its former glory. Committed to maintaining the ancient soul of the building, the owners have done a wonderful job in balancing tradition with innovation, blending historic stone walls, original features and antique flooring with contemporary comfort.

Extending over 250m², the two-floor villa is immersed in nature, set against a backdrop of mountains and lush green vegetation. Outside, a mix of lawned gardens and restful al fresco areas filled with the scent of fragrant jasmine provide ample space for everyone to relax. To one side of the villa, a stunning infinity pool, with graduated steps, is flanked by extensive paved sun terraces and large palm-filled planters that create boundaries between the sun terraces and the lawn. Steps from the pool area lead down to a lawn and the delightfully secluded jacuzzi.

Choose from several outdoor areas to eat al fresco, including a bar area which provides uninterrupted views over the surrounding hills and a shaded terrace, furnished with sofas and easy chairs. The outdoor dining area overlooks the pool, equipped with a stunning outdoor kitchen and pergola shading. There is also a garden toilet and shower.

Much of the villa’s original charm is immediately evident in its entrance: ceramic tiled floors and rustic stone walls set the tone. From here, terracotta paved flooring and beamed ceilings extend throughout the lovingly preserved home. On the ground floor, two generously proportioned living rooms are filled with light, the larger room thanks to a huge picture window, the second smaller room with doors to the terrace. The rooms feature large flat screen TV’s (55” and 65”) and antique furniture. A stainless steel professional kitchen is superbly equipped with a 4-ring hob, oven, dishwasher and large fridge freezer and a separate dining room provides an alternative eating area on cooler evenings.

There are three bedrooms, two family rooms on the ground floor (with double and single bed) and one double room on the first floor. The first bedroom has French doors to the veranda and an en suite bathroom with a double shower. The second has large sliding doors (with automatic shutters) that lead to the pool area, and an en suite bathroom with a wellness shower. The double bedroom on the first floor has a private bathroom with a shower, and access to a stunning split level furnished roof terrace with magnificent views.

Area

The villa is ideally located for exploring the west of Sicily where you’ll find towns and attractions that reveal much of the island’s fascinating history.

There are several restaurants, cafes and shops in and around the nearest village of Buseto Palizzolo. For more choice, head further west to the narrow cobbled-stone streets in the charming historic centre of Trapani. From here, you can hop on a cable car up to the medieval town of Erice, or head out to the salt pans to learn about the region’s salt production. Wine production is also strong in western Sicily - Marsala to the south of Trapani, and the wineries around Alcamo to the east are both worth a trip.

For anyone interested in Sicily’s Roman and Greek history, the temple of Segesta is close by. Selinunte, on the south west coast, is a little further away (80kms).

Although Buseto Palizzolo is set slightly inland, it’s only a short drive to an excellent selection of beaches. Choose from Castellammare del Golfo and the tiny coves of the Zingaro Nature Reserve to the east, the beaches around Trapani to the west, or the wonderful golden sands at Cornino, Macari beach and San Vito lo Capo to the north. For a special day out, explore the beautiful bays that fringe Favignana and Levanzo on a private boat trip to the Egadi Islands.
