OverviewVilla Antica Aia is a luxury villa with pool, located a few miles from the sandy beaches of Sampieri, near the baroque town of Scicli, set of the BBC Four’s popular Inspector Montalbano series. A unique chance to experience first-hand the magnificent settings of the most beloved character written by the famous Andrea Camilleri.

Villa Antica Aia can accommodate up to 16 people with three large double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms with shower on the upper floor together a double room, a comfortable double room with private bathroom and a double room on the ground floor. Adjacent to the main house is self-contained guest house with separate entrance and internal courtyard, which houses a master bedroom with a bathroom with shower.

The living area includes a large living room with open-fireplace and a dining room, a fully fitted kitchen with double entrance from the back of the house and a beautifully furnished veranda for al fresco dining, overlooking the pool area.

The large garden is home to a children play ground, a lush olive grove, fruit trees, exotic and mediterranean plants, and a beautiful swimming pool (open all year round) with furnished solarium, surrounded by a well-kept lawn.

Area

The property is ideally situated both for trips to the sea – 10 minutes’ drive away in Sampieri, where the beach is slightly wilder and fringed with dunes, though there are many other beaches along the coast within easy driving distance which are great for surfers and windsurfers and have sun beds and umbrella for rent - and to some of Sicily’s most beautiful towns: the Baroque UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Scicli, Modica, Ragusa and Noto. Siracusa and its ancient Greek Theatre is also within easy driving distance as are the quiet beaches of the Nature Reserve at Vendicari.

The beaches in the area of Pozzallo and Marina di Ragusa have received several consecutive "Bandiere Blu", attesting to the cleanliness of the water and their general ecological excellence.

For the best views around, head for Ragusa Ibla and take in the breath-taking sight of the city from the dizzy heights of the Chiesa di S. Maria delle Scale.

Also nearby is the pretty fishing village of Marzamemi which hosts an International Film Festival in July but is worth visiting at any time for its superb seafront fish restaurants and its lively piazza. Slightly further afield is Catania and Mount Etna.

Last month, our large family of 11 had the pleasure of staying at Villa Antica Aia for a week, and it truly was a wonderful holiday for all of us. Oriana and Michele, the villa's owners, welcomed us to the villa and helped us settle in comfortably. They are a lovely and hardworking couple who addressed any issues we had throughout the week with genuine care. Later in the week, they invited us to visit another beautiful villa they recently built near Scicli, and we’re already considering it for our next trip! The villa itself was spacious, with each room thoughtfully designed and beautifully decorated. We loved the extensive outdoor green space and amenities. Even with 11 of us, it never felt crowded—there was always a cozy corner where we could relax and enjoy each other's company. The villa’s location was also ideal. We had fun taking short drives to explore nearby villages and stunning beaches. Sampieri Beach was a favourite spot for our morning outings, and we loved heading to Scicli city in the evenings for a gelato in the piazza! Overall, our experience at Villa Antica Via exceeded our expectations. We'd 100% recommend staying here. We are also truly grateful to have gotten to know Oriana and Michele, and we can’t wait to return with family and friends soon!

We had an amazing stay at Villa Antica this summer. We knew the villa would be nice, but I don't think the photographs do it justice. The pool area in particular is wonderful, very private and quiet and so much space for a large group to relax, as well as plenty of loungers and chairs. The verandah area is very useful when it is hot and the hammock always had someone asleep in it. The beds were very comfortable and all the rooms were very spacious - there is one small twin room but that is fine for children. The villa is in a great location to explore the Scicli, Ragusa and Noto and you can do longer day trips to Agrigiento or Mount Etna. The beach at Sampieri was really popular with our group and less than a 10 minute drive where you can hire a lounger for the day or sit on the large, free section of beach. Oriana was the perfect host and had pizzas waiting for our family when we arrived late and very tired. She sorted out any small problems and answered our questions very promptly. Thank you! We had a really memorable holiday.

We were lucky enough to stay at the villa for 1 week in August 2023. It’s superb, having lots of space and a fantastic and well maintained garden and pool. The Villa is tastefully furnished and well maintained. Oriana, the manager, is lovely - always available to help and takes care to ensure we had a relaxing time. The villa is well located for excellent beaches and the nearest town, Scicli was our favourite of those we visited.

We spent 1 week in July in Villa Antica Aia. We particularly liked the outside of the house which is beautiful with the garden and its tropical trees! The trees provide shade which is great on hot summer days. The villa is high up from the sea but only a 10 minute drive away. The interior of the house is charming and the house is large. The kitchen is a bit old and lacks a bit of ameneties for the more demanding guests. Oriana, the manager, is very kind, available and accommodating. The Sicilians in the area are all very welcoming too. We recommend this charming house for holidays!
